Breast Implant Revision

A breast implant revision surgery is a specialized procedure used to correct or revise prior cosmetic, or reconstructive breast surgery. This elected procedure typically involves removing or replacing the originally installed breast implant. Patients that choose to have a Breast Implant Revision are seeking to change the size of the implant, type of implant, or seek to correct complications that resulted from a previous breast augmentation procedure. The overall goal of a Breast Implant Revision is to improve upon the overall shape and contour of the previous procedure, and to restore confidence for the patient.

Reasons To Choose A Breast Implant Revision

There are a variety of reasons that a patient can come to us for a Breast Implant Revision. Below you will find a few examples of things you may be experiencing that can make you a candidate for this procedure.

This condition happens when the breast implants drop considerably on the chest, causing the implants to appear too low, and the nipple to appear high. You can correct this issue by repositioning the implants by securing them with a biologic scaffolding.

It is normal for the body to create a capsule of scar tissue around your initial breast implant. However, over time, that scar tissue can become thicker, harder, and tighter creating a capsular contracture. This can become uncomfortable for the client to perform their day-to-day activities. Removing the capsule and implant eliminates that uncomfortable feeling that can be annoying for the patient. New breast implants are then replaced in a different position to the chest muscle to ensure attractive results with lasting comfort.

Some patients may decide after a breast augmentation surgery, that they would have preferred a different size implant. Exchanging larger implants for a different size, however, often can cause extra skin and a sagging breast shape which is also known as Ptosis. Once you downsize the breast implant, it is usually paired with a breast lift procedure to manage extra skin that is left from an implant downsize.

When you have a smaller body frame, individuals who opt for a breast augmentation procedure can sometimes experience rippling on the surface of the skin. One option to correct skin surface rippling is to use the patient’s own fat. Another option is to use a pad of biologic scaffolding material to overlying soft tissues.

Overtime, breast implants will leak or rupture. Once this occurs, they will need to be removed completely or replaced with a new set of implants.

This condition appears when the implant pockets merge across the middle of the chest cavity. The recommended way to correct this problem is to separate the breast implants pockets with the patient’s own capsule material from the breast implant, depending on if it is strong enough. If it is not strong enough to use, your provider will then implant a biologic scaffolding material to help remedy the issue you are experiencing with Symmastia.
