A Body Lift (also known as a Belt Lift, Belt Lipectomy, or Lower Body Lift) is a plastic surgery procedure that is similar to a tummy tuck. However, instead of only focusing on removing excess tummy skin, the procedure also removes the loose skin of your pubic area (aka FUPA), sides, love handles, and back. In the process of removing extra back skin, your butt also gets a lift! This procedure can be combined with Liposuction if you also have extra fat. Liposuction remove stubborn fat under the skin. A Body Lift can also include tightening of your abdominal wall muscles to create a more satisfying contoured look.
One of the most important aspects to understand about the procedure is that you are exchanging scar for contour. The scar usually extends around the circumference of your body to give in order to give an even, proportionate, lifted appearance.
Patients who choose to have a Body Lift are frustrated with loose skin, hanging skin, or stretch marks. They feel self-conscious about their extra skin and often find themselves stuffing their extra skin into clothes or avoiding certain clothing styles. Often the hard work that has gone into weight loss cannot be appreciated because it is obscured by excess skin. Other patients opt to have this procedure because they are experiencing rashes or skin irritation. A Body Lift can correct these issues and leave you feeling more confident.
Adults of any age can get a Body Lift procedure. The best candidate:
A Body Lift is a complex operation. After your procedure you will be scheduled to come back the day after surgery for your first follow up appointment with Dr. Geers. You will be provided with a compression garment that is designed to help with swelling and the healing process. It takes most patients around two or more weeks to get back to basic activities, and in certain patients, as many as three to six months to return to more vigorous movements including exercise. And though the recovery period may seem long, your resulting tighter, smoother body contour will be well worth it.
